The West Coast is a region located on the west coast of the South Island with main centres Greymouth, Westport and Hokitika. The West Coast region is renowned for its mining including coal and alluvial gold. Other industries include forestry, fishing and farming. West Coast is a sparsely populated region with only 32,600 inhabitants and only 4 towns with a population of over 1,000.

The West Coast stretches to the Southern Alps and is home to the amazing Fox Glacier. The dramatic rugged coastline of the region offers fantastic trails to explore.
