With the EIT | Te Pūkenga NZ Certificate in Horticulture (General) (Level 3) you will learn the fundamentals of growing a range of plants in a variety of environments.

A mix of theory and practical learning, you will learn about propagation and cultivation, growing systems, pests and disease, soils and plant science along with useful gardening skills.

Outline

This horticulture programme is ideal for people who want to increase their horticulture knowledge, whether it be to propagate their own plants or grow their own food.

The general horticulture knowledge and skills you will gain in this programme can lead to employment in the horticulture industry.

The programme has a mix of theory and practice and you will propagate plants in the EIT | Te Pūkenga glasshouse and grow plants in out outdoor garden. You will learn about pests and disease, soils, plant science and useful gardening skills. This programme gives you an excellent skill base for further study at higher levels.

As a graduate of this qualification you will be able to:

  • Apply knowledge of plant and soils science to the identification, selection and growing of plants.
  • Apply knowledge of growing systems and environments to the establishment and growing of plants.

Your future career and study opportunities

This qualification may build on the NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2). This qualification will also be suitable for small block owners or for mature learners who wish to gain knowledge of horticultural science in a range of general horticulture growing systems and practices.

As a graduate of this qualification you may be employed or self-employed, and/or move flexibly between a range of horticultural enterprises.
