About the course

The National Certificate in Beauty Services (Cosmetology) (Level 3) is awarded to people who have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of beauty services at a basic level within the commercial environment. Holders of this qualification are able to consult with a client, establish the needs of the client on the basis of consultation, sell beauty goods and services to meet client needs, conduct the prescribed service in a professional manner, and maintain communication with the client. In particular, holders of this qualification are able to:
. perform a manicure and/or pedicure service as an independent beauty services operator
. perform cosmetic services as an independent beauty services operator
. advise clients on selection and use of cosmetics and toiletries.

This qualification recognises the skills and knowledge required for these outcomes. There are no electives.

This qualification could lead to higher qualifications in Beauty Services such as the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Beautician) (Level 4) [Ref: 1046]; the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Nail Technology) (Level 4) [Ref: 1047]; the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Electrology) (Level 5) [Ref: 1048]; and the National Certificate in Beauty Services (Body Therapy) (Level 5) [Ref: 1049]. Some credits achieved for this qualification can be used for the higher qualifications.

About the provider

Free training for 16-19 years. A Private Training Establishment, registered with NZQA since 1991. Unit Standards delivered in Retail, Hairdressing, Beauty and core skills. National Certificates have the option to includes the achievement of NCEA Level 2 or level 3 through the Vocational Pathway of Service Skills.

The Centre works with small numbers of students and provides individualised support to ensure success. Focused on contextualising learning, the Centre provides real life opportunities.

Standards of service are set high to align with the current needs of employers. Developing and balancing each individual's abilities of self awareness, self perception, interpersonal, decision making and stress management provide the foundations for on going success in all areas of their life.
