About the course

Are you already working in Scaffolding Industry and want to attain elementary scaffolding Skills?

Learn the skills and theory that Scaffolders need in their daily work and ensure safety. This 2-year course will give you general scaffolding skills, and how to work with simple scaffolding structures in areas such as residential construction or maintenance sectors.

What you will learn

You will learn how to:

  • Design simple scaffold structures in a variety of systems including tube and coupler.
  • Erect, alter, and dismantle a simple scaffold structure in a variety of systems including tube and coupler.
  • Apply safe working practices while working at heights in accordance with health and safety.
  • Learn the legislation and the Good Practice Guidelines for Scaffolding in New Zealand.
  • Lead a small team to complete simple or suspended scaffold works.
  • Apply industry knowledge to calculate weights to sling regular loads using the appropriate lifting equipment.


How will you be Learning?

You will be learning at your workplace and attending block courses at our two main Te Pukenga’s Training Providers- Tai Poutini Polytechnic and Western Institute of Technology.


Certificate of Competence

You will then be eligible to apply for the Scaffolding Certificate of Competence (Elementary).

Prerequisite to meet regulatory body or legislative requirements: A current workplace first aid certificate.
